Tambocor Information
Tambocor (Flecainide Acetate) belongs to a group of medicines called antiarrhythmic agents. Flecainide is used to treat an irregularity in the heartbeat (known as an arrhythmia). It works by blocking certain electrical signals in the heart that can cause an irregular heartbeat and correcting irregular heartbeats to a normal rhythm. It is also used to prevent certain types of irregular heartbeat from returning (such as atrial fibrillation).
Tambocor Side Effects
The most common side effects of Tambocor may include fast or irregular heartbeat; dizziness; vision problems; fever; excessive fluid in the body (swelling); trouble breathing; headache; nausea; feeling weak or tired. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Fast or pounding heartbeats;
• Fluttering in your chest, shortness of breath, and sudden dizziness (like you might pass out);
• Feeling short of breath;
• Fever, flu-like symptoms;
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
• Pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness;
• Slow heart rate, weak pulse, slow breathing (breathing may stop);
• Swelling, rapid weight gain.
Tambocor Precautions
Do not use Tambocor if you are allergic to Flecainide Acetate or to any other ingredients in this medication or if you are pregnant or breast feeding; have any other medical problems, especially if you suffer from heart failure or some types of heart rhythm disorders; suffer from heart valve disease; have a history of heart attacks; have low blood pressure or a slow beating heart; have a serious heart condition called cardiogenic shock which causes rapid breathing, weakness, looking pale, confusion and can lead to a loss of consciousness; if you are already taking Disopyramide to regulate your heartbeat. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have if you know you have high or low levels of salt (such as potassium) in your blood; suffer from liver or kidney problems; have heart problems. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Tambocor and other medications. Dairy products like milk, infant formula and possibly yoghurt have been shown to reduce the absorption of flecainide acetate in children and infants. It is not known if this may apply to adults. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor for advice. Flecainide should not be given to pregnant or breast-feeding mothers unless the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the baby. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or drowsy, or you have eyesight problems while taking this medicine.
