Tetracycline Capsules Information:

Tetracycline Capsules (tetracycline) are an antibiotic that is used to treat many different bacterial infections of the skin, intestines, respiratory tract, urinary tract, genitals, lymph nodes, and other body systems. It is often used in treating severe acne, or sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia. Tetracycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis by binding with the 30S 50S ribosomal subunits of susceptible bacteria. By inhibiting the protein synthesis, the bacteria can no longer function, grow or reproduce. Before taking Tetracycline, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease. As well, tell your doctor about any other medications you are taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions. Taking Tetracycline during pregnancy may affect tooth and bone development in the unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you become pregnant while using this medication. Do not breastfeed while you are using Tetracycline, as the medication can pass into breast milk and affect bone or tooth development in a nursing infant. Tetracycline can make birth control pills less effective. Talk to your doctor about other birth control options.

Common side effects of Tetracycline may include, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite, white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips, swollen tongue, black or ‘hairy’ tongue, trouble swallowing, sores or swelling in your rectal or genital area, or vaginal itching or discharge. Call your doctor immediately if you experience severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash, fever, chills, body aches, or other flu symptoms, pale or yellowed skin, easy bruising or bleeding, or any signs of a new infection. If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.
