Thyroid Information
Thyroid is a prescription medication used to supplement low thyroid levels in people with hypothyroidism and other conditions. Thyroid belongs to the class of medications called thyroid agents. This medication works by supplying the thyroid hormone that is normally produced by the body. If your thyroid hormone levels are low, then our metabolism and many other body functions slow down. Thyroid medication does not cure hypothyroidism but it can keep your condition under control for the rest of your life. You should start to feel better a few days after you begin taking the medication but it may take several months for your thyroid hormone levels to get back to normal.
The most common side effect of Thyroid medication is if you take too much of it, you can get symptoms of an overactive thyroid such as fast heartbeat, hunger, shakiness, sweating, think skin and brittle hair, tiredness, trouble sleeping and weight loss. If you have any of the above symptoms, check with your doctor as he may need to lower your dose. You will need to continue your thyroid medication throughout your life to control your hormone levels.
