Topamax Information:

Topamax (Generic name: Topiramate) is an anti-seizure medication used to prevent and control seizures (may be used alone or in combination with other epilepsy medications) in adults and children who are at least 2 years old. Topamax is also used to prevent migraine headaches. Topamax will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks. It will not treat a headache that already begun. Topamax can also be prescribed off-label use for bipolar disorder. Topiramate is an anticonvulsant that works in several ways to prevent seizures and migraines. Take Topamax exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Topamax Side Effects:

The most common Topamax side effects include confusion, diarrhea, difficulty concentrating, dizziness, drowsiness, loss of appetite, tiredness, weight loss and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as back or side pain, behaviour or mood changes, bone pain, eye problem, metabolic problem, rapid breathing, and serious allergic reaction (hives; itching; rash; rash; trouble breathing; swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.

Topamax Precautions:

Do NOT take Topomax if you are allergic to Topiramate or to any of the ingredients in Topamax medication. Before taking Topamax oral, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as asthma, glaucoma, kidney disease or a history of kidney stones, liver disease, or recently has a surgery. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Topamax drug, especially of: anticholinergics, antihistamines, anti-seizure drugs, birth control pills, cough-and-cold products, diuretics, medicines for sleep or anxiety, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain relievers, psychiatric medicines and etc. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
