Twynsta Information

Twynsta (Telmisartan/Amlodipine) is used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure or hypertension occurs when the force of blood pushing through the walls of your arteries is consistently too high. This condition often has no symptoms. Twynsta is a combination of two medicines – Telmisartan and Amlodipine. Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) like Telmisartan prevent the blood vessels from narrowing to increase blood flow and reduce blood pressure. Calcium channel blockers like Amlodipine widen the blood vessels to improve blood flow.

Twynsta Side Effects

The most common side effects of Twynsta may include diarrhea, dizziness, flushing, nausea, and stomach pain. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Lightheadedness;
• Muscle stiffness;
• Shortness of breath;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat;
• Tremors

Twynsta Precautions

Do not use Twynsta if you are allergic to Telmisartan, Amlodipine, or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have diabetes, electrolyte imbalance, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, low-salt diet, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Twynsta and other medications, such as digoxin, lithium, simvastatin, cyclosporine, enalapril, aspirin, diuretics, etc. Do not use Twynsta if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. Telmisartan and Amlodipine will harm an unborn baby. Using this drug in the second or third trimester can cause death or injury to a fetus. Use effective contraception to prevent pregnancy when using Twynsta. Do not use Twynsta while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. Amlodipine passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 18 years without talking to your doctor.

Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Twynsta comes as a tablet. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You may take Twynsta with or without food at the same time each day. You will need frequent blood pressure tests when using this medicine. You may have very low blood pressure when using this medicine. Inform your doctor if you sweat more than usual or feel sick with diarrhea or vomiting. Do not stop using this medication without talking to your doctor. High blood pressure often has no symptoms. Stopping this drug suddenly can make your condition worse. Twynsta is not a cure for blood pressure. It helps to control it. Inform your doctor that you are taking Twynsta before undergoing surgery. You may experience a sudden fall in blood pressure when you are under general anesthesia. This drug increases your skin's sensitivity to the sun. Limit exposure to the sun and always use sunscreen SPF-30 or higher. Twynsta may make you sleepy or drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how this drug affects you. Avoid alcohol while taking Twynsta. Alcohol can increase the side effects of this drug. Do not use potassium supplements or salt substitutes while taking Twynsta unless your doctor has told you to. Avoid getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position, or you may feel dizzy. Get up slowly and steady yourself to prevent a fall. Store Twynsta at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
