Venofer Information

Venofer (Iron sucrose complex) is used to treat iron deficiency anemia in people with kidney disease. Iron deficiency anemia occurs when the body does not have enough iron to produce hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the part of the red blood cells that gives the blood its red color and also enables the cells to carry oxygenated blood throughout your body. You may need extra iron because of blood loss during kidney dialysis. Venofer will not treat other forms of anemia not caused by iron deficiency. Iron products like iron sucrose complex work by replenishing the body with iron. Your doctor may prescribe Venofer when you cannot take iron by mouth or have taken it by mouth, and it has not worked.
