Ventolin Diskus Information
Ventolin Diskus (Salbutamol Sulfate) is used to prevent and treat the symptoms of breathing problems. Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are breathing problems that cause wheezing and shortness of breath. The drug is also used to prevent asthma caused by exercise. Ventolin Diskus is a quick-relief drug used in adults and children at least four years old. Bronchodilators like Salbutamol Sulfate relax the muscles around the airways to open up and allow easier breathing.
Ventolin Diskus Side Effects
The most common side effects of Ventolin Diskus may include cough, dizziness, dry throat, headache, and nausea. Call your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, such as:
• Chest pain;
• Fast breathing;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Muscle cramps;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, breathing difficulties, itching or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
Ventolin Diskus Precautions
Do not use Ventolin Diskus if you are allergic to Salbutamol Sulfate or other ingredients in this medication. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, including if you have diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure, low potassium levels in the blood, seizures, thyroid disorder, think you may be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, are breastfeeding, or are planning to breastfeed. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ventolin Diskus and other medications, such as digoxin, imipramine, methyldopa, chloroform, metoprolol, linezolid, etc. Do not use Ventolin Diskus if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant without informing your doctor. It is not known whether Salbutamol Sulfate will harm an unborn baby. However, uncontrolled asthma in pregnancy may increase the risk of low birth weight, premature birth, or eclampsia. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this drug in pregnancy with your doctor. Do not use Ventolin Diskus while breastfeeding without talking to your doctor. It is unknown if Salbutamol Sulfate passes into breast milk or if it may harm a nursing infant. Do not give this drug to children below 4 years without talking to your doctor.
Use your medicine exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Ventolin Diskus comes as an inhalation powder to be used with an inhaler device. Always wipe the mouthpiece of the DIskus with a dry tissue to clean it before and after use. This drug should be inhaled through the mouth only. Avoid contact with the eyes. If the medication accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse with plenty of water immediately. Your dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often than prescribed without your doctor's approval. Using too much of this medication will increase your risk of serious side effects. If you use Ventolin Diskus to prevent exercise-induced asthma, use the drug 10 to 15 minutes before exercising. The effects of the drug should last about 4 to 6 hours. Salbutamol Sulfate can cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires alertness until you can safely do so. Stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position to reduce your risk of falls. Do not take alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can increase your risk of side effects. Use this medicine only as required, not regularly. Inform your doctor if the medicine does not seem to work as well as usual. This could indicate that your chest problem is worsening, and you may need a different medicine. Store Ventolin Diskus at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep all medicines out of reach of children.
