Xigduo Information:
Xigduo (Dapagliflozin Propanediol Monohydrate/Metformin Hydrochloride) is a combination medication used to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Xigduo is combined with a proper diet and exercise program. Dapagliflozin belongs to a group of drugs called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and it works by helping the kidneys get glucose out of the body in the urine. Metformin belongs to the class of drugs called biguanides and it works by reducing the amount of glucose made by the liver and by making it easier for glucose to enter into the tissues of the body. Xigduo is used by adults who are already taking Dapagliflozin and Metformin as separate tablets and have good glucose control. You may be able to help prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs and sexual function problems by controlling high blood sugar. The recommended dose of Dapagliflozin is one tablet taken by mouth 2 times a day.
The common side effects of Xigduo may include back pain, constipation, diarrhea, headache, metallic taste in mouth, nausea, sore throat. You should avoid excessive alcohol intake if you take this medication as alcohol increases the risk of lactic acidosis. Xigduo may decrease the amount of fluid in your body. Some patients may experience a decrease in blood pressure.
