Xolair (Omalizumab) Information
Xolair also known as Omalizumab is a prescription medication used to treat allergies. It is an antibody that reduces the sensitivity to allergens by decreasing allergic responses in the body. Omalizumab is a monoclonal antibody that works by binding to the IgE allergic antibody which blocks its actions. This is an injectable prescribed medication used to treat both moderate and severe asthma in individuals 6 years of age or older. Xolair also treats chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) which is when the body chronically breaks out in hives but the cause is unknown. This medication should be given by a healthcare professional at a healthcare facility. Xolair is injected one or more times under the skin (subcutaneous), every 2-4 weeks.
Before using this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to it or if you have any other allergies. This medication may have some ingredients that can cause allergic reactions. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of your medical history. During pregnancy, this medication should only be used when urgently needed.
