Amaryl is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels. Amaryl works by causing the release of your body's natural insulin which lowers blood sugar. You may be able to help prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs and sexual problems by controlling your blood sugar. Amaryl can be used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. Amaryl is not used in patients with type 1 diabetes. Insulin or other diabetes medications are sometimes used in combination with Amaryl if needed. Amaryl can cause side effects including difficulty with swallowing, dizziness, fast heartbeat, hives, itching, puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, shortness of breath, skin rash, tightness in the chest, unusual tiredness or weakness, or wheezing. If any of the above symptoms occur, contact your doctor immediately. If you experience any symptoms of overdose including anxiety, blurred vision, cold sweats, cool, pale skin, increased hunger, nightmares, shakiness, or slurred speech, seek emergent medical help.
