Blexten (Bilastine) is an antihistamine medication used for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis (inflammation and irritation of eyes due to allergies) and allergic hives, as well as allergic rhinitis, or hay fever. Blexten is typically used for seasonal allergies. Blexten is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. During an allergic reaction, mast cells undergo degranulation which releases histamine and other irritating substances. By binding to and preventing activation of the H1 receptor, Blexten reduces the development of allergic symptoms due to the release of histamine from mast cells. Take this medication as directed.
