Colazal (Generic name: Balsalazide Disodium) is a prescribed medication approved for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is 1 of 2 types of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the other being Crohn's disease. Balsalazide Disodium is used to treat a certain bowel disease (ulcerative colitis). Balsalazide is an anti-inflammatory drug that works by decreasing swelling in the colon. It helps to reduce symptoms of ulcerative colitis such as diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and stomach pain. The most common Colazal side effects are headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, respiratory infection or arthralgia.
