Norvasc Information:
Norvasc (Generic name: Amlodipine Besylate) is the most prescribed medication used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and chest pain (angina caused by lack of oxygen in the heart muscle due to clogged arteries). Amlodipine Besylate is a calcium channel blocker. It works by relaxing and widening the passage of blood in blood vessels, thus reducing the heart’s workload and increasing the volume of blood pumped by of the heart. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Take Norvasc exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Norvasc Side Effects:
The most common Norvasc side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, edema (swelling of the ankles), flushing, gas, headache, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, stomach/digestive disorders, or weight changes. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as blistering or peeling skin, chest pain, easy bruising or bleeding, fainting, jaundice (yellow eyes or skin), persistent fever, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, hives, difficult breathing, swelling of the lips, throat or tongue), please inform your doctor immediately.
Norvasc Precautions:
Do NOT take Norvasc oral if you are allergic to Amlodipine or other dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers. Before taking Norvasc, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as aortic stenosis, coronary artery, heart failure, low blood pressure, sick sinus syndrome, liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or heart rate, especially of: antifungal, cough-and-cold products, diet aids, high blood pressure medicines (e.g., beta-blockers, “water pills”/diuretics), intravenous (IV) calcium, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for pain/fever reduction. Avoid grapefruit juice while taking Norvasc medication. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
