Azilect Information:
Azilect (Generic name: Rasagiline) is a prescription medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease (PD). Rasagiline is an enzyme blocker (MAO inhibitor). It works by slowing the breakdown of certain natural substances in the brain (neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin). Azilect medication may be taken alone or combination with levodopa to treat the signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Take Azilect exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Azilect Side Effects:
The most common Azilect side effects are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, flu symptoms, headache, joint pain, nausea, sweating, weakness, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as bruising, chest pain, fainting, fever, hallucinations, increased blood pressure, mental/mood changes, muscle stiffness, numbness, seizures, vision changes, and symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; itching; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Azilect Precautions:
Do NOT take Azilect oral if you are allergic to Rasagiline or to any of the ingredients in Azilect medication. Before taking Azilect, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially: adrenal gland tumor, bleeding problems, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, mental/mood disorders, stomach ulcer, liver or kidney disease, overactive thyroid, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Azilect drug, especially of: antidepressants, cyclobenzaprine, MAO inhibitors, meperidine, St.John’s wort, sympathomimetics, tramadol, and etc. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
