Lupron Depot (Generic name: Leuprolide Acetate for Depot Suspension) is a prescription medication used for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer in men. Lupron Depot is also used to treat disorders of the uterus (e.g., endometriosis, fibroids) in women. Leuprolide Acetate is a long acting GnRH analog. It works by decreasing the production of testosterone in men and estrogen in women to stop growth of the diseased cells involved in prostate cancer and endometriosis. Lupron Depot injection should be administered by your doctor or a health professional.
Lupron Depot Side Effects:
The most common Lupron Depot side effects are acne, breast tenderness, constipation, dizziness, headache, hot flashes, impotence, injection site reactions, light vaginal bleeding, nausea, and sweats. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as anxiety, bone pain, depression, migraine headache, mood changes, nervousness, urinary problems, vision changes, and symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing, hives, rash, swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Lupron Depot Precautions:
Do NOT use Lupron Depot injection if you are allergic to Leuprolide Acetate or any of the ingredients in Lupron Depot medication. Do NOT use Lupron Depot intramuscular injection if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Before using Lupron Depot IM, tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions such as depression, high blood fat levels, osteoporosis, and vaginal bleeding. They may interact with Lupron Depot IM, especially of: aspirin, birth control methods, and osteoporosis medications.
