To obtain optimal efficacy, the first pill should be taken as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. The second pill must be taken 12 hours later. Plan B is more effective the sooner you take it. Take Plan B morning after pill exactly as it was prescribed for you.

Plan B one-step should NOT be used as a routine birth control. Consult your doctor for the regular contraceptive methods. Before taking Plan B pills, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions, especially of: breast cancer, diabetes, unusual vaginal bleeding, liver or kidney disease. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use, they may interact with Plan B and reduce its effectiveness. However, there are no published drug interaction studies of Levonorgestrel, the active ingredient in Plan B.
