Plan B (Generic name: Levonorgestrel) is an emergency contraception (EC) used to prevent pregnancy. Plan B is a new contraceptive morning after pill contains two progestin-only pills containing Levonorgestrel. Plan B does NOT work if you are already pregnant. It works by: temporarily stopping the release of an egg from the ovary; preventing fertilization, and preventing a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. To obtain optimal efficacy, the first pill should be taken as soon as possible within 72 hours of unprotected sexual intercourse. The second pill must be taken 12 hours later. Plan B is more effective the sooner you take it. Take Plan B morning after pill exactly as it was prescribed for you.
